Quick Guide to the Tax Exemption Process

The Customs Law allows the semi annual tax exemption for personal packages with values up to $500.00 CIF (Item's invoice + shipping+ insurance).

Follow these Steps

  • Submit a PreAlert in MyAero and select the tax exemption check box at least 24 hours before the package to be exempted arrives in Miami. You must submit the tracking number (UPS, Fedex, DHL, USPS, etc.), package's value, name of the shipper and consignee.

  • Present the following documents at our nearest counter.
    Please DO NOT fax them.

    1.

Power of Attorney form filled out and signed.

    Print
    Power form

    2.

    Commercial Invoice for your package.

    Print
    Invoice Format
(Only if you don't have the original)

    3.

4 signed copies of your cédula de identidad (Costa Ricans), residence card or passport (foreigners).

  • The cost for the exoneration paperwork is $16.95 with tax (includes the Power of Attorney form, legal stamps and paperwork).

    Remember!

The tax exemption process is NOT AUTOMATIC. You must register a PreAlert in MyAero for your package.

Each person is allowed a semi-annual tax exemption of one package containing personal goods with a CIF value up to $500.00 (Item's invoce + shipping charges+ insurance).

If your order arrives in separate packages on differents flights, you may only tax exempt one of the packages according to legal regulations.

First time excemptions submitted with residence cards or passports go through a special process in Customs and may take longer, so we recommend you plan your imports far enough ahead.
