Looking into buying a new TV?

Read ahead to find out about the latest television displays available in today’s market. Keep in mind your preferences, most importantly the amount of money you are willing to spend.

Plasma Display Panel (PDP)
Samsung Plasma 51inch HDTV
If you are in search of a thin large-screen television that can adjust to almost any viewing angle, this one is a winner!

Plasmas generate excellent brightness due to their use of direct lighting with phosphors. The outcome is that the color pixels of an image are distributed evenly across any monitor. High definition is without doubt its main attribute. An additional feature is that plasmas can connect to a PC and your computer screen is instantly visible on the TV monitor.

On the other hand, plasmas are known to have a shorter life span than other TVs. Be sure to ask your retailer about “hours to half brightness” if you decide to buy one. These TVs are usually not designed smaller than 42 inches. Also, these TVs cannot reproduce still images for a long time resulting to the appearance of an after-image (burn-in effect).

Prices start at approximately $500 for a 42”.

Liquid Crystal Display (LCD)
Acer LCD TV 32 inch
These are the most popular and widely sold TVs in the market.

LCD stands for liquid crystal display, which is a type of technology used for image processing. These TVs attract many viewers because they are lightweight, thin, and modern looking. Also, they are not susceptible to burn-ins.

The newer LCD screens use LED backlights. LED is a source of light that uses up less energy than standard TV sets. Instead of using mercury like other systems, LED generates designs by using a backlight system. There are different ways that LED backlighting is adjusted onto the screen. The two principal methods are Fully-Array and Edge Lighting and they are distinct in structure and visualization. Before you purchase one or the other ask your retailer if you can take a look at both to make a good comparison.

However, there are drawbacks to LCDs. You cannot view the same quality picture from every angle. Usually the best image quality is visible in front of the screen. If you watch TV from another position the color tends to gradually dim or appear unfocused.

Generally LCDs larger than 30 inches are expensive (approximately $400 for a 32”).

Rear Projection (RPTVs)
Sony RPTV 61 inch
If you have a spacious wall and are looking into buying the largest screen size possible, this TV is the right choice. You can have a movie theatre experience in your own room!

Rear projection TVs are manufactured in sizes 60 inches or larger. They are priced affordably compared to other large screens. Image projectors located behind the screens power RPTVs. The picture quality is excellent for watching DVDs, playing video games, or displaying high definition videos.

A major disadvantage of RPTVs is their constant maintenance. Within 3 to 5 years of the purchase they will need lamp replacement for a cost of at least $200. Also, these monitors are very difficult to mount onto a wall.

Currently there are only two brand manufacturers of RPTVs: Mitsubishi and Samsung. If you decide to purchase one make sure you are offered a reliable warranty.

Prices start at approximately $1,500 for a 73”.

3D Capability
Panasonic Viera 3DTV 42 inch
Today, almost every TV manufacturer produces a line with three-dimensional viewing capability. When you watch your 3D TV there is an illusion of depth that looks as if the images are popping-out of the screen.

For some TVs you need to wear special lenses that filter the offset images to each eye. Other TVs with auto-stereoscopic displays do not require lenses because its light source allows direct image transmission to your eyes.

3D TVs add excitement to your viewing experience but after an extended period of time they may cause headaches or eye fatigue. It is recommended to rest the eyes after an hour of watching 3D displays.

Other than purchasing a TV with 3D capability you will also need to buy a source that delivers 3D content such as a 3D Blu-ray player. The downside is that there are not many discs available in 3D version.

TVs with 3D capability are usually priced $300 or more than non-compatible 3D models.

What are Black Friday and Cyber Monday?

Black Friday and Cyber MondayYou’ve probably heard that “Black Friday” is coming up on November 27th but may not know what it really means.  In the United States, Black Friday refers to the biggest shopping day of the year, which always occurs on the Friday after Thanksgiving. In the business world, when a company is profitable, it is referred to as being “in the black,” so Black Friday is the day retailers hope they make enough sales to become profitable for the entire year.  Most stores run big sales and slash their prices to draw customers through their doors.  Some even open at 12:01 a.m. on Black Friday and customers often line up in the early morning hours to get deals on electronics, clothing, computers and all sorts of other things they buy for the Christmas season. The first Monday after Thanksgiving has become known as “Cyber Monday” because many online retailers extend sales their weekend sales so that when people arrive back at work on Monday morning, they can continue to shop from their desks.

Luckily for you, Black Friday (and, of course, Cyber Monday) deals can be found online! To celebrate, Aeropost is bringing Black Friday to you with a huge festival of online shopping for all members of the Aeropost Network.  On November 27th, come shop with one of our shopping assistants.  We’ll be open late in most locations so you can shop with us plus we are have exciting promotions going on across the network.  Many Aeropost locations have special hours and promotions on Saturday November 28th, too, so be sure to check online for counter hours.  Counters are open during regular hours on Cyber Monday so you can come in and take advantage of all the special offers and promotions

For the best deals of the year, come into our stores on November 27th, 28th and 30th.  Also be on the lookout for our Black Friday sales event emails with special Christmas Shopping deals from selected online merchants.  ‘Tis the season to save online!

Santa’s Helpers

Santa's HelperIt’s a well known that when working in Customer Service, lots of people thank you for your help. Unfortunately, we cannot remember all those we have helped, however, there was one customer in particular that stayed on my mind and I remember her most vividly when the Holidays are near.

I remember one evening, unusually quiet for a December afternoon, I was busy reviewing another customer’s purchases when one of our customers stepped in with her daughters, girls between 4 and 6 years of age. The lady cheerfully walked towards me and said, “Sir, I need urgent assistance to buy a few things” while she looked at her daughters. I asked her to take a seat while we looked for some Barbie dolls while her daughters looked at my monitor in amazement, astonished by the number of dolls.

One of them seemed to react when she saw we were buying the exact doll she wanted and she asked: “Mom, why are you asking this man for the doll I asked Santa for?” The lady froze still for a moment while I carried on as if nothing happened, but then I heard the lady saying ‘You see, this man is one of Santa’s helpers”

The expression on the girls faces said it all, it was one of total amazement and unthinkable happiness.

The rest of the time they kept asking me questions like how is Santa, how big is Rudolf the reindeer, if I had personally seen Santa and if I spoke to him daily.

Then of course, I did not know what to say but I decided to play along with their mother’s game and be Santa’s helper.

We always felt that customers satisfaction was one of our priorities but watching these girls joy was truly magical.

So these days at Aeropost/Aerocasillas we have become Santa’s helpers.

How do I know if I am shopping in a secure website?

When shopping on line, we are all concerned about whether the store is one that we can be sure will protect our credit card information. One of the first questions our new users ask our shopping assistants is “how do I know that the website where I want to buy something is secure”.

A secure website means that it is safe to enter your personal information, like passwords or credit card information, because the information is not available to anyone else and is encrypted.
